LeROY (25News Now) - Former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty’s annual charity motorcycle ride made a stop in Central Illinois today.

The 28th anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America made a pit stop at the Loves in LeRroy.

Dozens of motorcyclists are traveling more than 2,100 miles from South Dakota to North Carolina.

The ride raises money and awareness for Victory Junction – a camp for children with chronic medical illnesses that Petty and his family founded in 2004 in memory of his son Adam who died in a racing accident.

“This ride sends hundreds if not thousands of kids to camp every year as camp goes on,” Petty said. “We’re excited we’re opening a new water park this year that’s donated by the Kyle Petty Ride Foundation so we’re excited to get out there and see it.”

Since the ride’s inception in 1995, more than 9,100 riders have logged nearly 13 million miles and raised more than $21 million for Victory Junction and other children’s charities.
