The news that NASCAR is not for sale, but may sell a piece of itself to a minority owner, has the boys scrambling back into the podcast studio to discuss this latest development.

Forbes.com reported NASCAR is looking for minority owners rather than an outright sale. Ken thinks a big media company will jump at the opportunity.

Once the guys clear that, the talk turns to Sonoma, which is the 1.99-mile, 11-turn road course in California’s wine country. The track figures prominently in this week’s discussion.

Godwin is still working on the math on how Martin Truex Jr., who was literally coasting the last few times around the course, won that race by more than 10 seconds over Kevin Harvick.

Cole Pearn, who is Truex’s crew chief, went to the Left Coast and played hurt after getting bonked on the head during a family project. They have an audio pearl from Pearn on the topic.

And before they have a chance to leave Sonoma, the world’s youngest angry old man, Zach Dean, adds his two cents about Chase Elliott and Chevrolet, then exits the studio by slamming the pod door.

Later in the podcast, the guys discuss whether this season’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series title chase is a three-driver race between Kyle Busch, Truex and Harvick.

Who will be the fourth to run in the Championship Round at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November?

Ken goes with Kurt Busch, the 2004 Cup Series champion, while Godwin favors young Kyle Larson, who has been the fastest driver from the Chevrolet camp this season.

There’s a clip from Clint Bowyer, who says Stewart-Haas Racing is running on all eight cylinders.

“I think I’m running on five,” Ken deadpans.

Before the podcast runs its course, the topic of NBC Sports and Dale Earnhardt Jr. is thrown into the mixing bowl for discussion. Dale Jr. is making his network debut as a racing analyst.

Each week, join The Daytona Beach News-Journal’s Godwin Kelly and Ken Willis, two of the preeminent motorsports writers in America, as they hit all the hot topics in NASCAR. And maybe a few other things.
